EP 104: How Strength Training Helped Me Get My Sh*t Together

For over a year now, I’ve been strength training four times a week. And no, I’m not a fitness influencer, and I didn’t suddenly fall in love with the gym. What started as a way to “feel better” has turned into something that’s changed how I move, eat, think, and show up in my everyday life.

In this episode of The Ashley Avis Podcast, I’m sharing what this journey has really looked like. Not just the workouts or the weight loss, but the deeper shifts that have helped me feel more grounded, more capable, and more like myself.
Here’s what I talk about:
Why I finally stuck with a trainer I actually vibe with (she’s a no-BS mom of three who really knows her stuff)
How strength training four times a week helped me build structure, discipline, and confidence
Where cardio fits in, and why I love zoning out with reality TV on the treadmill
My approach to food now, including higher protein, healthy fats, fibre, hydration, and tracking macros in a way that still lets me enjoy life
Why I cut back on caffeine and alcohol, and what I do instead when I want a treat or something to celebrate
How sleep became a priority, and why early bedtimes make me ridiculously happy
The ripple effect of taking care of myself, and how it’s helped me show up better as a parent, a partner, a business owner, and a human
This isn’t a story about being perfect. It’s about consistency, clarity, and making small choices that support the kind of life I actually want to live.
If you’ve been craving more energy, more structure, or just a little more time to take care of yourself, this episode might be exactly what you need.
