The Big, Bad Truth About Social Media

Updated: Feb 1, 2020

I had a dream, that one day I could just make a post on my Facebook or Instagram account and everyone would know about my classes, book in and that would be marketing plan. Easy. Free. and I could do it while I was stuck under my sleeping baby as long as my phone had a charge.

Well! It has been a year since I set that goal and I have done a ton of learning to make this plan a reality. But there was one lesson I really needed to learn in order to get the ball rolling.

This may not be news to you but the first time I heard it I had this yucky feeling in my stomach and I knew that this was going to be trickier than I thought. Are you ready for it?

Guys, when you make a post on social media, almost nobody sees it.

Let that sink in. Less than 3% of your followers actually see you posts.

Gone are the days where we used to post and our friends and family's feeds would be a play-by-play about what we did that day and who we did it with.

Unless your engagement is up and people are liking, commenting, sharing or tagging their friends in your posts, Facebook and Instagram are not going to be putting you front and center on the screens of your future students.

Why? Have you heard of the algorithm? Pretty much it is Instagram and Facebook's goal to keep people on their ap as long as possible.

How do they do it? They show people more and more of what they want to see, what they engage with. If they are scrolling and then stop when they see a cool photo, read the caption, hit like and make a comment, those seconds add up. The longer people are on their ap, the more sponsored ads they can show, which is ultimately how they make their money.

So that is the big bad truth about social media and it is exactly WHY you need to have an online marketing plan and it may be a good idea to have an offline one too.

If you want to know how I turned my social media around watch for my upcoming seminars From Social to Student [Click Here]. I share all my tips, theories and yes, the mistakes I have made over the past year to grow my accounts and get my followers to actually come to class.
